Committee on Effectiveness & Efficiency for the Future

The Effectiveness & Efficiency for the Future committee of the Board of Trustees was formed in September 2008 to establish an ongoing emphasis on practicing the most responsible stewardship of University resources. Initially, the committee worked to help determine, implement and monitor savings initiatives. As it goes forward, the committee will serve to facilitate a culture of careful and conservative use of operating resources.

Since its formation, the committee has:

  • Identified savings initiatives by examining successful economic and operating models elsewhere in public higher education
  • Received more than 800 savings suggestions from UT faculty and staff and the public
  • Worked with campus, institute and certain department leaders to identify savings options and to monitor implementation progress
  • Reported to the Board the financial and qualitative impact of the savings measures

Strategic focus areas include:

  • Automation/outsourcing
  • Reduction in administration
  • Utility reductions
  • Program consolidations
  • Salaries and benefits
  • Revenue increases

Meeting notices are posted with the Board’s schedule. Archived meeting materials, minutes and communication from the committee are available for review in the sidebar to the right.
