Communications Corner

We have tracked greater numbers of people using the UT System website to find information about the budget and leadership transition and our new communications efforts are working. The budget information section of the UT System website debuted in February, and we have been updating the site with information as we get it. The site addresses the budget process, frequently asked questions and links to other websites, including the Legislature’s. We also have relied more on webcasts to allow faculty and staff to be more engaged in the budget process.

About 1,400 viewers watched the Efficiency and Effectiveness Committee meeting webcast on Jan. 5 – a University record at that time for a single webcast presentation. The UT System website logged 7,355 visitors on Feb. 18, the day of the webcast press conference announcing the leadership transition. More than 1,400 people tuned into the March 24 webcast of my short message to the campuses about the budget situation, and more than 8,000 visitors to the UT System website were counted that day. Increasing video opportunities in conjunction with the UTalk website are expected in the future. We believe this strong feedback is evidence that stakeholders want to be involved and will take advantage of opportunities to do so.
