New Supercomputer

UT Knoxville has won a $10 million grant from the National Science Foundation to develop a new computer system that will be housed at Oak Ridge near Kraken.

The system, called Nautilus, will be capable of storing vast amounts of data, making it one of the largest shared-memory computers in the world.

The difference between Kraken and Nautilus is that Kraken can quickly process large amounts of information into data. Nautilus can take the data and make sense of it through visualization, analysis and aggregation.

Like Kraken, Nautilus will be part of UT's Joint Institute for Computational Sciences.
